Coker Palmer

Counseling Intern

Growing up in Clinton, Mississippi, Coker learned early the value of community, compassion, and faith-values that have shaped every step of his calling. Coker holds a Bachelor's degree in Biblical and Theological Studies, a Master of Divinity in Pastoral Counseling and Professional Chaplaincy, and is currently completing his internship and practicum hours toward a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

For more than twenty years, Coker has served churches across Mississippi as both a youth minister and pastor, walking with individuals and families through seasons of growth, hardship, and transformation. Today, he serves as a chaplain with Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jackson, MS, providing spiritual care, emotional support, and clinical insight to patients and families navigating grief, trauma, and life's most vulnerable and triumphant moments.

Coker’s counseling approach is solution-focused, helping clients identify strengths, regain stability, and work toward pre-event functioning after loss, crisis, or emotional disruption. He specializes in grief and trauma counseling, meeting people exactly where they are and offering a safe, compassionate space to explore the thoughts and experiences that keep them from living the way they desire.

Coker is a trained facilitator for both Prepare/Enrich and SYMBIS marriage counseling frameworks, equipping couples with practical tools to strengthen communication, deepen connection, and build resilient relationships. He have been married to his wife, Jennifer, for over twenty years. Her unwavering support has been a cornerstone of Coker’s personal and professional growth-especially during his graduate studies and clinical training. Together, they have one daughter, Breann, who continues to be a source of joy and inspiration.

At the heart of Coker’s work is a simple commitment: to meet people with grace, walk beside them with empathy, and help them discover hope, healing, and renewed purpose
